Last night my dreams were filled with tigers, ghosts, exorcisms, and processions of German monks and gold crosses containing relics of the True Cross and Saint Athanasius’s beard…which is a relic that I really hope my brain made up…belonging to the as yet unsainted Athanasius Kircher…who, to my knowledge, didn’t have as much of an impressive beard as, say, Matteo Ricci.
